It's prom night, 1986, and the Crestline High gym has never looked so radical, until the music cuts, the smoke machine sputters, and someone's corsage is found on a body under the balloon arch. The student council president, the head cheerleader, the vice principal on chaperone duty, the band that was robbed at battle-of-the-bands: everyone's got a secret worth graduating from. One of them just made sure somebody never will. Grab your yearbook. It's time to find out who.

Welcome to Crestline High, 1986, the last Saturday of senior year, and the gym has been buried in crepe paper and neon under a banner that reads A Night Under Neon Lights. For one night the gym is the whole social universe: prom court is an election with real casualties, the chaperones have histories of their own, and the parking lot is international waters. Speak the lingo: gnarly and radical mean great, bogus means unfair, to the max intensifies everything, a dweeb is uncool, and gag me registers pure disgust. Etiquette: you sign yearbooks honestly or not at all, you never cut in during a slow song, and what happens in the parking lot stays in the parking lot. Everyone here is a graduating senior or the staff who chaperone them, old enough to drive, young enough to still believe prom court matters.
